Why are the Dray Prescot books not available in the mobi format?
Some of the later omnibuses are not available in mobi format because of the way that Smashwords requires mobi formats to be made. They are very labour intensive. The individual books should all be available in mobi format though. Let me know if you find any that aren’t. You can convert epub to mobi yourself, using software like Calibre, or an online service like http://www.zamzar.com, but I realise that might be a bit of a pain. Let me know if this doesn’t solve your issue and I’ll see what I can do.
The omnibuses are available on Amazon, who based their format on MOBI. I thought that maybe Amazon wouldn’t let you sell in MOBI format on Smashwords because you sell them on Amazon. Anyway, I wanted to get the omnibuses I don’t have yet, on sale for $6.99, which is what prompted my initial question. Buying the individual books would cost more.
Gary: I discovered this morning that I can upload mobi files directly to Smashwords without using their conversion process. So all the Dray Prescot omnibus books are now available in mobi format from Smashwords. Thanks for letting me know that this was needed.
Thank you 🙂
I found an error in downloading the books I bought. If I go to Library -> Books You Own, and click on the title, it brings up a window where I can click on mobi or epub. When I click on mobi, I get this error “The URI you submitted has disallowed characters.” It appears that the brackets [ and ] are in the URI, and I think that’s the problem. When I went to the individual book page, it allowed me to download them, and there were no brackets in the URI.
Please can you report that to Smashwords? It will be an issue on their end. I will report it too. Thanks. And thanks for your purchases — I hope you enjoy the books 🙂
I just sent the message to Smashwords.
Thanks. Me too. I’ve heard back that the error is with their “link cleaning” and they are dealing with it. One more small improvement to the world 🙂
Finished buying the remaining omnibus books I needed. Thanks for having the sale 🙂
