Mythical Journeys, Legendary Quests cover imageMythical Journeys, Legendary Quests by Moyra Caldecott is a book about the “spiritual search” and draws on traditional stories from world mythology. It is now available as an ebook from all the best ebookstores. Mythical Journeys, Legendary Quests will also be available in paperback from Bladud Books (our paperback imprint) on June 1, 2007 from Amazon and in theory from any bookshop in the world (by special order most likely).

Here is the blurb:

One of the most persistent themes in myth and legend from the world’s many cultures is that of the story of the journey — the quest. In Mythical Journeys, Legendary Quests, noted writer on the topic, Moyra Caldecott, shows the connection between the sacred, mythic journeys as found in legend and story and the real journey of the individual soul towards enlightenment.

This perennial quest for reassurance in the face of human mortality is spread as wide as our existence on the planet and throughout history. Indeed Carl Jung and, more recently, Joseph Campbell have shown us that myth and legend are not just fantasy tales for children. They are powerful expressions, in code, of a deep yearning towards an understanding of human existence.

Moyra Caldecott has selected material from many cultures to illustrate this point: from ancient Egypt and Sumeria to aboriginal Australia, pre-Columbian America, Vietnam, India, Africa and Europe. With each legend retold, she provides background on its origin and detailed analysis of its meaning and significance.

Book number 16 in the Saga of Dray Prescot, that most thrilling of planetary adventure series, is now published. Savage Scorpio by Kenneth Bulmer writing as Alan Burt Akers, is available from all good ebookstores, including eBooks.com, fictionwise.com, ereader.com and others too numerous to mention. Look out for early-bird special offers — for example, fictionwise.com offer 15% discount off all new titles in the first week.

Here is the blurb:

Somewhere in the unmapped regions of Kregen, beneath the two suns of Antares, alpha star of the Constellation Scorpio, lies the hidden city of the Savanti. The Savanti were the ones responsible for tearing Dray Prescot away from his native Earth for their struggle against the Star Lords. And Dray had long sought the locale of his original landing because it would help solve the mystery of his transition. Now the time had come when the search must be completed without delay, for the father of his beloved Delia was a victim of assassins, and only the Savanti could undo the evil that could shatter all that Dray held dear in his second planetary homeland.

Savage Scorpio is the thrilling novel of a mission that would involve powerful forces far beyond all Prescot’s personal desires.

Secret Scorpio, the fifteenth book in the Dray Prescot series and the first title in the Vallian Cycle by Alan Burt Akers, is now available from mobipocket.com and cyberread.com. It will be available at fictionwise.com and the rest of the best bookstores in the next few days.

Here is the blurb:

The brightest star in the Constellation Scorpio is the brilliant double sun Antares, around which orbits the inhabited planet called Kregen. Kregen is an Earthlike world, but strange, far stranger, than ours. For it is the scene of a conflict between galactic powers who utilize its many human nations and its astonishing variety of humanoid peoples as their battleground. Dray Prescot of Earth had been a tool of those powers, but courage and ingenuity had won him a high role in the Vallian Empire and a certain independence of his own. Thus when a mysterious monster cult began to undermine the empire and when his own beloved princess became a victim of those secret schemers, Prescot had to go into action.
Secret Scorpio launches a new cycle in the magnificent history of Kregen and brings Prescot at long last into direct confrontation with the forces that had once dared make him their pawn.

The latest book in the saga of Dray Prescot is now available from all the best online bookstores, though it may take a few days for it to arrive everywhere. At the time of writing, it is available from mobipocket.com and cyberread.com (in multiple formats).

Krozair of Kregen is book 14 in the excellent science fiction adventure series by Alan Burt Akers (aka Kenneth Bulmer) and is one of my personal favorites. Very intense, and, I admit, it had me weeping at the end. Enjoy!

Here is the blurb:

Never before in his fantastic career on Kregen, planet of the twin suns of Antares, had Dray Prescot been in such a desperate predicament. A despised outcast by his friends who wore the red of Zair, he had now been condemned by his old enemies whose battle color was the green of the sun Grodno. For while among these slavers and conquerors of the green, searching for a way to turn the tide of war to his own redemption and his friends’ advantage, he had personally encountered the deadly animosity of Grodno’s king, had betrayed his champion, and had shattered all he had so carefully worked for. But continue he must, for now, in addition to the enormous feat that alone would restore his honor, he had a blood vengeance to achieve that overrode everything.

After a long wait, the thirteenth title in the long-running saga of Dray Prescot, of Earth and of Kregen, is now available. Renegade of Kregen by Alan Burt Akers continues the “Krozair Cycle” begun in Book 12, The Tides of Kregen. It will be available from all good eBookstores over the next few days, but it is already available at Mobipocket.com and at Cyberread.com.

Here is the blurb:

Never before in his adventurous career under the double suns of Antares had Dray Prescot been in as desperate a situation as he found himself on his second entry into the city of Magdag. Magdag had been the scene of one of Prescot’s earliest experiences on Kregen and he recalled it with loathing as a city of power-lusting slavers, of decadent worshippers of the Green Sun. As one who had been initiated into the chivalric order of Krozairs, he despised all that that city stood for. But now Prescot was an outcast. Any Krozair, any follower of the Red Sun of his former friends, would slay him on sight. For him there was only one way to recover his home, his children, his self-respect. He would have to perform an act of valor so extreme, so fabulous, that its glory would wash away all that now stained his name. Only by reaching to the very heart of mighty Magdag could he hope to achieve such a suicidal triumph.

More good news about Alan Burt Akers’ Dray Prescot books…

We have concluded an agreement with Kenneth Bulmer’s agent, Pamela Buckmaster, to publish omnibus editions of the first 18 Kregen novels. The current plan is to publish the following books:

The Saga of Dray Prescot: The Delian Cycle

The Saga of Dray Prescot: The Havilfar Cycle I

The Saga of Dray Prescot: The Havilfar Cycle II

The Saga of Dray Prescot: The Krozair Cycle

The Saga of Dray Prescot: The Vallian Cycle

This will take us up to book 18, and if they are reasonably successful we will consider publishing the remainder of the series in paperback also. Also, if there is enough interest and demand, we may be able to publish hardback editions, too. We expect the books to be available during April and May.

NEW TITLE: A World To Win

A World to Win cover imageA World to Win is the second title from the author of the acclaimed An Endless Exile. It is available immediately from Mobipocket.com and Cyberread.com, and will be available at all the best ebook retailers over the next few days.

Here is the blurb:

Set in Hungary and Transylvania during the turbulence of the 1848 revolutions, this is the love story of an independent-minded Scottish governess, Katie Kettles, and Lajos Lazar, a peasant-born lawyer and revolutionary determined to change the world by any means possible.

In 1847, with Europe on the verge of revolution, Katie becomes governess to the family of Count Istvan Szelenyi and accompanies them to Hungary. On the journey, she first encounters Lajos making illegal speeches from a Viennese café table, and is drawn to him in spite of his incendiary politics. But Lajos is not her only distraction from her duties. Katie has her own vengeful agenda which begins to stutter as she reluctantly becomes involved with the family’s lives and loves, and assists in the illicit romance of Istvan’s sister Katalin with a penniless Romanian officer. While Hungary plunges into political upheaval, and Lajos leads his radical followers in ever more dangerous agitation, Katie faces her own personal revolution of moral values to resolve both her family issues and her passionate relationship with Lajos.

Through Katie’s eyes, we see the euphoria of a bloodless revolution victorious over an unjust and stagnant Imperial regime. But even the revolution cannot overcome some deep-seated prejudices, and the war fought to defend the gains of the revolution makes enemies of those who should have been allies. As the forces of repression sweep back into power across Europe, Katie’s tragedy becomes personal.
