SFBTGthumb Beyond the Gyre, the fourth and final book of the “Song of the Arkafina” series by Suzanne Francis, is now available in paperback edition from all good bookstores around the world, both offline and online.

Here is the blurb:

The island of Asaruthe has sheltered the Dawnmaid, Myriadne, for the past sixteen years, but Yr has fallen prey to a deadly plague, and it is clear she must leave soon. Katkin du Chesne and her daughter Poppy travel with Myriadne and help her free the Firaithi from Maggrai’s diabolical laboratory in the former Infirmarie on Isle St. Valery.

Meanwhile, Gunnar Strong Arm’s twin sons, Jakob and Lut, are feuding with each other. When Jakob carelessly gap shifts, he leaves a trail that Maggrai’s minions can follow back to Asaruthe. The death and havoc they wreak will send Lut on a mission of vengeance against Maggrai — and his brother, Jakob.

In the final battle, the Dawnmaid must find a way to converse with her enemies, the Angellus, before they attack the secret haven of the Firaithi with their unquenchable fire. What is it they have been defending through all the turns of the Gyre? The answer astonishes both Amaranthine and human alike…

The “Song of the Arkafina” series consists of Heart of Hythea, Ketha’s Daughter, Dawnmaid and Beyond the Gyre. Suzanne is currently working on more books and stories set in the same universe, including Wintermoon Ice, which will be available later this year.

jikaida_cycle front cover The Jikaida Cycle by Alan Burt Akers will be available on 21 July in a hardcover edition from all good bookstores. Published by our sister imprint, Bladud Books, this is the latest of the Saga of Dray Prescot omnibus editions and contains books 19-21:

A Life for Kregen
A Sword for Kregen
A Fortune for Kregen
A Victory for Kregen

The back copy:

Four hundred light years from Earth, Kregen is a marvelous world, peopled by wonderful beings, filled with light and clamor and furor of life lived to the hilt. But Kregen has its darker side, where horror and terror batten on innocent people, where sorceries rend reason, where injustice denies light.

Here, in the unforgiving yet rewarding world of Kregen, struggling through disaster and triumph, Dray Prescot has made his home. He has acquired a number of titles and estates but now the people of the island empire of Vallia, which has been ripped into shreds by ambitious and mercenary invaders, have called on him to lead them to freedom as their emperor. Reluctant to accept the imperium, he shoulders the burden because, rightly or wrongly, he sees this as the lesser evil…

I am pleased to announce three new eBooks that we are publishing over the next few weeks:

10th August – The Cotton Run by Daniel Wyatt

Set during the American Civil War, this tells the story of Joshua Denning, captain of a “runner” — a ship running the Union blockades to bring much needed supplies to the Confederates, and trade Southern cotton.

7th September – Wintermoon Ice by Suzanne Francis

The first book of the “Sons of the Mariner” series, in which an unexpected inheritance forces Tessa into the arms of a volatile alien-hunting mariner and challenges her understanding of time and space. It is set in both this world and in the world of Suzanne’s wonderful fantasy romance series, “Song of the Arkafina”.

5th October – The Garden by Renée Evaline Wilks

A modern hard-hitting novel, telling the story of hardened little boy who finds relief from his alcoholic father’s brutal physical beatings in an unlikely companion. Romance blossoms between them as they grow up. The Garden is their refuge and saviour, and its memory pushes them past whatever penances they must endure to find each other again.

The Song of the Arkafina series is also available in ebook editions from the usual ebook stores online.

The blurb:

Gwenn and Gunnar travel to Khalama to bury Arkady Svalbarad, but nothing goes as planned. For one thing, Arkady isn’t really dead. And his old teacher, Dawa Tinley, seems somehow menacing. When Gunnar mysteriously disappears, Gwenn and Arkady form an alliance that will bring both danger and new promise to the peoples of Yrth.

Meanwhile, Huw and Katkin find comfortable shelter in an ice-locked valley, until the addition of two orphaned children to the family leaves Katkin feeling trapped and miserable. After Huw’s arrest for murder, she must decide whether to run or stand by his side. The choice becomes even more difficult when Katkin meets up with an old love. But a chance meeting steers her to Starruthe just in time to deliver Gwenn’s baby daughter Myriadne.

Now that the Dawnmaid has been born, it will take a miracle to hide her from Maggrai, who has returned from the future with a weapon of total annihilation. But Gunnar also has a secret weapon, though he is reluctant to use it. Will he accept his true nature before Maggrai’s wrath destroys the last hope of the Firaithi?

s_francis_sm_gs Suzanne Francis, author of The Song of the Arkafina series, was interviewed a couple of days ago by Kim Smith, for her podcast Introducing Writers on Blog Talk Radio.

It was a very interesting discussion of Heart of Hythea, Suzanne’s writing style, how she structures her writing time, and lots of other things.

krozair cover The hardback edition of The Krozair Cycle by Alan Burt Akers is now available in hardback from all good bookshops including Amazon. The Krozair Cycle has been available in paperback for a while, and the ebook editions of the individual titles are also available in multiple formats, including Kindle, Sony Reader, Mobipocket, eReader, and others.

It includes volumes 12-14: The Tides of Kregen, Renegade of Kregen, and Krozair of Kregen.

The blurb:

For the first time ever, the books in the Saga of Dray Prescot of Earth and of Kregen are being brought together in omnibus editions.

With this volume of his saga, Dray Prescot is hurled afresh into brand-new adventures on the planet of Kregen, that grim and beautiful, marvelous and terrible world four hundred light-years away beneath the red and green fires of Antares, under the Suns of Scorpio.

Kregen is a world too rich in passion and action to allow a fighting man like Dray Prescot to rest for long. Once more, then, Prescot is launched into fresh adventures, but this time there is a hiatus which might easily break a man of lesser fire and spirit than Dray Prescot, Krozair of Zy.

ketha cover sm

The second volume in the Song of the Arkafina series by Suzanne Francis is now available in paperback under our imprint Bladud Books from all good bookstores, both online and offline.

Ketha’s Daughter returns us to the world we were introduced to in Heart of Hythea where we follow the adventures of Katkin’s daughter, Gwenn Faircrow.

Here is the blurb from the back of the book:

Queen Katrione Arkafina ably rules the kingdom of Beaumarais, but she has had less success with her boisterous daughter, Gwenn, born under the sway of a brutal Goddess. Keth Dirane has given Gwenn awesome strength and almost complete invulnerability, but manipulates her cruelly in return. Now, to further her own ends, she convinces Gwenn she must seek revenge for an old betrayal.

On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Gwenn runs away. After she allies herself with some marauding coastal raiders, captained by Gunnar Strong Arm, she has the army she requires. Now, as the dreaded warrior Faircrow, Gwenn will steer the Fynära inexorably towards her former home — the City of Isle St. Valery.

Paperback: 316 pages, ISBN 978-1-84319-809-3.
